Roots Pakistan- a grass root development action, is registered civil society setting, under the Pakistan's Societies'Act 0f 1860.This civil society Action was conceived by its founding Chairperson/Executive Director Dr. Wajid Pirzada. In his early childhood, he was close witness to the socio-economics of rural Pakistan where his father -a Medic by profession worked to help alleviate the sufferings of ailing rural communities. His father maintained a farm house as well, where he used to keep livestock for catering domestic needs of dairy products and companion animals to support his recreational interests.
This environ of countryside Pakistan- Roots of Pakistan, left deeper in-prints on the mind of Dr. Pirzada when he was growing as young child. In his long career as development practitioner (Veterinarian) and later as researcher, academic, policy maker and negotiator( in the area on international trade in food & agriculture) stakes of rural Pakistan remained dearer & nearer to him.
It was in early 2000 that he with his colleagues chose to establish a civil society setting as a team of passionate rural development practitioners. Being a career researcher , his earlier focus in Roots Pakistan was to generate empirical evidence to inform policies & programs related to Rural Pakistan.
In this context, he along with his team worked closely with civil society, public & private sector and academia in the area of policy research, advocacy & mainstreaming, not only in Pakistan but also in the region and internationally.
